The Illinois Fighting Illini defeated the Nebraska Cornhuskers 71-64 at the State Farm Center on Saturday afternoon in Champaign, Illinois. It was a breakout performance for Kipper Nichols, who entered the contest scoreless since the Michigan game back in January. His 18 point performance off the bench was assisted by the double digit scoring totals from Ayo Dosunmu and Trent Frazier.
Earning just their third conference win in the 2018-2019 season, the Illini jumped out to a 7-0 run to start the game. Despite Nebraska trying to keep pace, Illinois would amass a 14 point lead with a little over two minutes left in the game.
Nebraska squeaked their way back into contention thanks to an 0-9 drought at the free throw line from the Illini, though the Huskers would have issues of their own. Illinois found a way to hang on in the end, earning their seventh win of the season.
Up next, the Illini face the sixth ranked Michigan State Spartans at the State Farm Center on Tuesday night.
