Illinois inches up in new AP poll

Only one game this week for the Illini.

Another week, another bump in the polls for Illinois.

The Illini checked in at No. 16 in the new AP Top 25 rankings out on Monday. Illinois was No. 20 last week.

Brad Underwood’s team is coming off a busy two-game week, and a three-game stretch away from Champaign. Illinois opened the week with a thrilling win over FAU at Madison Square Garden, but came back down to earth with a tight loss on the road at Tennessee on Saturday.

Only one game on the schedule this week for the Illini. It’s a Sunday matinee against Colgate at State Farm Center.

Arizona is still the No. 1 team in the country, having crushed Wisconsin over the weekend.

Other notes about the Big Ten: it’s not a great league. Both Iowa and Michigan State fell to 0-2 in conference play over the weekend. Those are two of the teams Illinois will play both at home and away this season.
