It didn’t take long for Bret Bielema and Co. to get to work filling needs for 2024.
On Sunday, one day after Illinois’ season ended in a 45-43 loss to Northwestern, the Illini picked up a commitment from junior college star Daniel Brown.
According to 247 Sports, the 6-foot-1, 240-pound edge rusher is the No. 1 JuCo edge prospect in next year’s class.
He most recently played at Hutchinson Community College, where he had 17.5 sacks and 48 tackles in 10 games.
247 reports that Brown had offers from more than a dozen schools, including Big Ten foe Minnesota.
With major change coming to the Illini’s D-line — Johnny Newton and Keith Randolph off to the draft, and Seth Coleman possibly following suit — it’s good that Bielema is already attacking the portal. I think most fans would like to see this in terms of high school recruits, but I don’t think it’s a bad thing to take a flyer on the guy who led junior college teams in sacks this past season.
