In compliance with the University of Illinois’ policy — and Gov. JB Pritzker’s announcement on Thursday — face masks will be required in indoor parts of Memorial Stadium during Illini games this season.

According to a news release, fans at football games will be rehired to wear masks or face coverings — covering both their nose and mouth — in indoor locations unless they are actively eating or drinking.

Those locations include the Great West Hall, the East Hall, elevators and elevator lobbies, first-aid rooms, premium seating hallways and club spaces.

Fans are not required to wear face coverings in the stands, but the CDC and the University recommend wearing them in large crowds where social distancing may not be possible.

Illinois welcomes Nebraska to Memorial Stadium to open the college football season at 12 p.m. Saturday.
