Basketball news in late June!

According to a news release, Illinois will square up with Marquette in the 2021 Gavitt Games, an annual showdown of teams from the Big Ten and Big East.

The game will take place in Milwaukee, so the Illini will get a good early season road test.

The 2020 Gavitt Games were canceled due tot he pandemic, and Illinois didn't get a matchup in the 2019 games.

But back in 2018 you might remember the Illini lost to Georgetown, 88-80. The Illini are 1-2 all-time in the event.

Marquette, usually one of the conference’s premier teams, took a step back last season, finishing 13-14 and firing its head coach. Coming in to the program is Wisconsin native Shaka Smart.
