Friday was quite the exciting day for the Illinois Fighting Illini. The Orange and Blue played their first NCAA Tournament game since 2013 — as a 1-seed, no less — and also received their first pledge of the 2022 class. Reggie Bass, a 6-foot-5 combo guard from Elevation Prep in Fort Wayne, Ind., committed to Illinois on Friday, which just so happened to be Bass’ birthday.

Bass is a consensus three-star recruit and the 217th-ranked player by 247Sports. Bass had tons of attention from high-major programs and had Kansas State, Oregon State & Providence among his final four schools.
Brad Underwood has prioritized athleticism and scoring in his recent recruiting classes, bringing in players like Adam Miller, Austin Hutcherson, Andre Curbelo, Luke Goode & R.J. Melendez. Bass will now add his name to that mix.
Here is an updated look at Illinois’ scholarship chart. We can safely expect Ayo Dosunmu to leave after this season which will free up his scholarship. There’s a good chance Kofi Cockburn’s scholarship will free up too.
The Illini are also players in the Nimari Burnett transfer sweepstakes and is a recruitment to keep an eye on.
