Former Illinois men’s basketball coach Dick Nagy has died, according to a tweet from Brad Underwood.

Nagy, who was 78, was called by the current Illinois coach “the foundation of so many outstanding Illini teams.”

Nagy coached on Lou Henson’s staff for 17 seasons, including the Final Four run with the Flyin’ Illini in 1989.

He also coached at UIC under former Illini assistant Jimmy Collins, and also did radio work for the Flames.

Nagy’s son is the current head coach at Wright State. Here’s a nice article about the family from last Christmas.
