Illinois quarterback Brandon Peters was named to the Maxwell Award watch list on Friday morning, the Maxwell Football Club announced.

The award for the best college football player has gone to some notable names the past three years, including Joe Burrow, Tua Tagovailoa and Baker Mayfield.

It’s the first time in his career that the Illini gunslinger has been picked to a watch list.

Peters threw for almost 1,900 yards, 18 touchdowns and eight interceptions to the tune of a 55.3% completion rate and led the Illini to their first bowl game since the Heart of Dallas Bowl back in 2014.
