The Illini continue adding players to their roster. While a football schedule and any sense of what a football timeline looks like this fall is very much in question, Lovie Smith and the Illini coaches continue to build the 2021 class.
McConnell is 6-foot-2 and weights 259 pounds. He’s a big, bull-rusher off of the edge and held offers from Power Five programs in Duke, Kansas, Louisville, Minnesota, Pittsburgh, Vanderbilt and West Virginia, in addition to Illinois.
McConnell’s high school, Westlake, is one of the power programs in the entire state of Georgia. Cam Newton played there, as did Adam ‘Pacman’ Jones. More recently, Chance Warmack (OL, Alabama) and AJ Terrell (CB, Clemson) are Westlake HS alums. Three of the top 20 players in the state of Georgia (per Rivals) are all teammates of McConnell — two of them are undecided and the other, wide receiver Dacari Collins, is committed to Clemson.
McConnell joins Prince Green — an Athlete who committed earlier this month — as players from Georgia in Illinois 2021 class.
