The rising junior has two years of eligibility remaining after playing at Miami. The 6-foot-3, 210-pound wideout will need to sit the 2020 season before playing.
Hightower was a four-star recruit back in 2018 and had a big-time offer list, with options from Alabama, Clemson and USC. But the California native settled on Miami after finishing his high school career at IMG Academy in Florida.
He wasn’t very effective at Miami during two disappointing seasons for the program. He had 12 catches for 148 yards and one touchdown.
Illinois tried to get Miami’s Jeff Thomas last offseason before he returned to Coral Gables.
Hopefully this time, the Illini get their guy.
