Less than 24 hours after sophomore guard Alan Griffin announced his plans to transfer from the University of Illinois, fellow sophomore Tevian Jones announced he has put his name in the transfer portal as reported by The Athletic’s Brendan Quinn.
Another Illinois guard is in the transfer portal. This time it’s Tevian Jones.

That adds to the already large list of guards the Illini will lose this season. Andres Feliz and Tyler Underwood are gone due to graduation, now Griffin and Jones via the transfer and likely Ayo Dosunmu to the NBA draft.
The 6-foot-7 sophomore from Arizona struggled to stay on the court, taking multiple suspensions due to off-the-court behavior. Nonetheless, Jones always displayed potential on the hardwood.
Coming out of Chandler High School in Arizona, Jones was a four-star recruit by both Rivals and 247Sports and ranked near the top-100 overall. Despite getting attention from Arizona among other major schools, Jones decided to come to Illinois.
In his two year career, Jones played in 37 games and averaged 2.6 points per game. Jones had no bigger game in orange and blue than his career-high 18 points in the Illini’s win over No. 13 Maryland at Madison Square Garden during his freshman year.
With the news of Griffin gone, Jones seemed like a candidate to break out next season — but now if he does it will not be at Illinois.
Here is how the Illini’s roster looks for the next four seasons.
