CHAMPAIGN, Ill. — Illinois head coach Brad Underwood announced on Wednesday that Illinois sophomore guard Ayo Dosunmu has ‘no structural damage’ to his leg.
“We received positive news today from the MRI scan,” Underwood said in a statement. “Our medical staff will work with him around the clock on treatment and recovery.”
The injury was suffered in the closing seconds of Tuesday night’s 70-69 loss against Michigan State.
Widely regarded as the best player on the roster and a sure-fire selection for All-Big Ten First Team, Dosunmu entered the season as one of the top NBA prospects in college basketball. After a somewhat slow start to the year, Dosunmu bumped his averages up to 16 points, 4.1 rebounds, and 3.4 assists per game.
Ayo got back on Twitter on Wednesday afternoon, thanking everyone for their support and pledging that he’ll get back to work.
Thanks for all your prayers #IlliniNation. The dub slipped away last night. Today, it’s back to work! Be back soon ... #UnfinishedBusiness pic.twitter.com/Ybr7uonbUU
