Four-star QB CJ Dixon committed to Illinois on Friday night via a tweet.

The 6-foot-5, 210-pound Georgia native looks to add to a growing Illinois QB room, joining a sophomore Isaiah Williams, junior Matt Robinson and Coran Taylor and senior Brandon Peters in 2020. But with Dixon, even if he’s unproven, you need to love that size. A big quarterback — and if Rod Smith wants him out of high school, he’s got to have some wheels — puts him on par with someone like former-Ohio State QB Dwayne Haskins (6-foot-3, 230 pounds). Beef up Dixon a bit, and the potential is there.
Dixon also had offers from Alabama, Maryland and Colorado, among others.
247 says he was recruited by Mike Bellamy and Rod Smith. Dixon is also the No. 28 player in Georgia in 2020 and the No. 285 player nationally, garnering double-digit offers and high-level FCS offers.
Gwinnett (GA) Prep Sports says Dixon backed up senior J’Kori Jones last season on Grayson High’s state playoff team. He completed 24 of 41 passes for 309 yards and five touchdowns. That means Dixon figures to get the starting nod this season as a senior, with a chance to prove everyone wrong — and the Illini right — for not making enough of a push for him.
Just check out this pro-style QB. Let’s go.
