Illinois added Belgium forward Benjamin Bosmans-Verdonk, per his Instagram, which was first reported on by 247’s Derek Piper.
The 6-foot-7 Verdonk will join Kofi Cockburn and Bernard Kouma as the members of Illinois’ 2019 class, after Antwan January did not sign in the signing period.
From TCR’s Matt O’Neall (who watched a whopping two minutes of Verdonk), he notes that he is a good passer and versatile. Underwood is sure to like his handles and ability to shoot, but foot speed and quickness may be issues.
Like Samba Kane last year, it’ll be a question of how quickly Verdonk can get used to the style of play in the Big Ten.
Hopefully he’s a Giorgi. At worst, he takes a roster spot.
