Illinois has its first 2020 commit.
And he’s one of the top players in the state.
Three-star offensive lineman Marcus Harper committed to Illinois on Sunday afternoon via a tweet, becoming the first commit for the Illini in next year’s class.

The 6-foot-4, 290-pound lineman currently attends prep basketball powerhouse Simeon Academy in Chicago, who also annually fields a very good football team. 247 lists him as the seventh-best player in the state for 2020, as well as the 34th-best offensive guard and the 638th recruit overall.
He also had offers from Boston College, Bowling Green, among others.
Harper was in town for Illinois’ junior visit day on Saturday, along with members of the 2019 class and a “Who’s who” list for 2020 wants.
