Ayo Dosunmu keeps building his case for Big Ten Freshman of the Year — even when the Illini barely play.
Illinois played just once last week, a road win over Ohio State, but it was enough for Dosunmu to claim Big Ten Freshman of the Week honors for the second straight week. The 6-foot-5 guard scored 15 points, grabbed four rebounds and had three assists in Illinois’ first win in Columbus since 2009. Dosunmu has scored at least 10 points in each of Illinois’ wins during its four-game winning streak, and had the dagger three against the Buckeyes.
Dosunmu ranks second among freshman in scoring in conference games at 15.1 points per game.
Giorgi Bezhanishvili was not able to keep his title as Big Ten Player of the Week, however, as Minnesota’s Jordan Murphy claimed that one.
Illinois plays at Wisconsin tonight on FS1, and it’ll take another heroic effort from the Illini’s unstoppable freshman to win the game.
