Illinois puts its 14-game losing streak to Wisconsin on the line on Monday night when the Illini visit Madison for a 7 p.m. tipoff on FS1. With the Illini on a four-game winning streak, we should all be optimistic that Illinois stands a fighter’s chance at the very least.
Except, some Illini fans might have trouble being able to watch the game — and not only because nobody knows what channel FS1 is on their remote.
Instead, for a very select group of men with girlfriends, Mondays at 7 p.m. is when the phone is put down,
ESPN FS1 is turned off and sports are not talked about for two hours.
For those men, Mondays at 7 p.m. is time for The Bachelor.
But that’s where we’re here to help! We want you to be able to watch the Illini and see them end the skid! So, here’s a handy guide to helping you convince your girlfriend why you should watch the Illini since Brad Underwood is basically the same person as Colton Underwood — and not only because of the shared surname.
For those who don’t know, Colton Underwood was a contestant on the 14th season of The Bachelorette and became the ‘bachelor’ on the 23rd season of The Bachelor this year.
Both the 27-year-old Colton and 55-year-old Brad hail from the Underwood clan.
Your significant other who enjoys The Bachelor probably really appreciates that Colton is a Midwestern guy at heart, a very relatable fella. Of course, Colton was born in Indianapolis but grew up in Washington, Illinois, and even played football at Illinois State.
Brad is an Illinois import, growing up in Kansas before working with Western Illinois for over a decade as an assistant coach. Both guys are just really relatable cornfield dudes.
The Positive Reactions to Their Hires
A lot of people really liked each choice. Some people didn’t like Colton, but, you know, some people still don’t like Brad.
So just tell her that people like Brad. A lot. He might be a little dramatic, but you’ll want to follow him on the TV.
I like Colton. I think he is a very nice and genuine person.— Allison (@allison_beall83) September 9, 2018
He is a good guy. Perfect pick.— pamela raggio (@RaggioPamela) September 5, 2018
Josh Whitman is my hero. Illinois AD crushed it with the search and didn't throw away $75K of school's money on... https://t.co/Pao5XY8lg8— Jeff Goodman (@GoodmanHoops) March 18, 2017
WHOA. That, my friends, is a killer, killer, killer hire. https://t.co/udgkR7eEjY— Sam Vecenie (@Sam_Vecenie) March 18, 2017
Look at all the people who loved the Underwood hire. You really forget how much the media liked this choice.
Nobody Screws With Them
So the big thing with Colton is that he claims to be a virgin. There’s nothing wrong with that, but nobody is screwing with him.
And have you ever seen the players Brad coaches? NOBODY is screwing with him. You’ll end up at Mizzou.
They’re both looking to be part of a remarkable story
Anyone who has ever watched The Bachelor knows that it’s looking to be a wonderful love story where one man picks a woman out of a group to be his wife (until an inevitable divorce). But it’s a show that follows one man on his search for greatness.
And isn't watching Illini Basketball the same thing? Of course, there’s Brad looking to bring together a motley group to be a bunch of winners. It’s a group of guys who we follow on their search to greatness.
When you really think about it, they’re the same show. Isn’t that amazing?
So, when your girlfriend wants to watch The Bachelor tonight, just turn on FS1. Kapeesh?
What are you going to watch tonight?
