The Fighting Illini have added another exciting defensive line prospect to the 2020 class.

Tre’von Riggins, a 6-foot-2, 265-pound defensive tackle from Lakewood High School in St. Petersburg, Florida, officially signed with Illinois today during the Early Signing Period.

Riggins — listed by 247Sports as the No. 811 overall recruit in the class and 70th-rated DT — verbally committed to the University of Miami as a sophomore back in 2018, but decommitted from the Hurricanes late last month. He also held offers from Arizona State, Florida, Tennessee, and USF among others.

Assistant coaches Austin Clark and Keynodo Hudson were instrumental in the late pursuit to get Riggins to Champaign.

He’s the fourth d-line recruit in this class from the Sunshine State, joining ends Cooper Davis & Jerzhan ‘Johnny’ Newton, as well as interior lineman Quinton McCoy. These signees add to an Illini defense already flush with Floridians, including Owen Carney Jr., Dawson DeGroot, Jake Hansen, Khalan Tolson, Devon Witherspoon and Bobby Roundtree.

Riggins’ Lakewood teammate, three-star dual-threat QB Gregory ‘Deuce’ Spann, will also don the Orange & Blue in 2020.
