Illinois’ first game will be Friday night in Provo against Utah. The Illini were one of the last four teams in after a 16-13 regular season, a disappointing year just months removed from a trip to the Final Four a 2-0 advantage of Nebraska.
Chris Tamas has now made the NCAA Tournament all three years since taking over in Champaign — with this his most difficult challenge yet after graduating some of the best players in program history (Jordyn Poulter and Ali Bastianelli).
Wisconsin, the team Illinois beat last year in the Elite Eight to advance to Minneapolis, is the lone Big Ten team among the nation’s top-four seeds.
We’ll have more preview coverage in coming days as the Illini get set to head west and get some upsets.
