CHAMPAIGN, Ill. — After missing the past eight games due to suspension, head coach Brad Underwood announce that freshman forward Tevian Jones will be available against Northwestern on Sunday.
Jones, the 6-foot-7, four-star recruit out of California, was issued his suspension back on Nov. 27, due to a violation of team rules.
During Jones’ eight-game absence, the Illini are 2-6, including a 79-63 loss in the Braggin’ Rights game against Missouri.
In the six games prior to his suspension, Jones was averaging 3.2 points and 1.7 rebounds per game. His best game of the season came during the season opener when he recorded eight points, four rebounds, a block, and a steal in the win over Evansville.
Jones was considered among one of the top-100 recruits in the class of 2018. He played sparingly for Illinois leading up to the suspension and hasn’t found comfort at the college level yet. Missing basically half of the non-conference season puts Jones at a serious disadvantage coming into Big Ten play, and that could make it tough for him to find his groove this year.
