Game 1: Illinois 11, Maryland 0

Illinois got off to a great start to the weekend on Friday, with the offense scoring 11 runs, and Taylor Edwards (7-6) held the Terrapins to five innings of one-hit ball.

Illinois got out to an early 2-0 lead, thanks to a Stephanie Abello RBI double and a Madi Doane RBI single. The Illini followed that up with an eight-run second inning, led by a two-run double from Bella Loya, and a two-RBI triple from Kiana Sherlund.

Game 2: Illinois 7, Maryland 1

Illinois earned the series win on Saturday afternoon at Eichelberger Field, defeating the Terrapins 7-1.

The Illini once again jumped out to an early lead in the bottom of the first, with RBIs from Abello, Loya and Doane. Leigh Farina added a three-run double in the fifth, while Edwards (8-6) threw five innings and only allowed five hits and zero runs.

Game 3: Illinois 20, Maryland 2

Illinois’ offense went off big time in Sunday’s game, plating its second-most runs scored in a single game in program history. The record is 22 runs scores at Indiana on March 29, 2015.

Illinois has scored 20 runs on two other occasions.

Doane and Sherlund led the Illini with six and five RBIs, respectively. Four of Sherlund’s RBIs came on her fourth home run — and third grand slam — of the year. Doane hit two three-run shots in the game, and she now has seven home runs on the season.

At the conclusion of this weekend’s series, the Illini sit at 25-13 overall, with a 6-4 Big Ten record, which is good for third place in the Big Ten standings.
