Illinois Softball Wins Double Header over Green Bay

Illinois Softball improves to 27-15 after wins over Green Bay on Wednesday afternoon

Game 1: Illinois 4, Green Bay 1

Illinois got off to an early 1-0 lead in the first, with an RBI double off the bat of Stephanie Abello. Veronica Ruelius added another run in the second frame with a solo home run, and Leigh Farina added a two-run double in the fourth to put the Illini up 4-0. Taylor Edwards (9-7) provided seven innings of five hit, one run ball, and Illinois cruised to victory in game 1.

Game 2: Illinois 6, Green Bay 4.

Green Bay jumped out to an early 3-0 lead off of Illini starter Akilah Mouzon, but Illinois’ offense quickly rebounded in the bottom of the second thanks to a two-RBI single from Kiana Sherlund. Bella Loya tied it up in the third with her seventh home run of the season. The Illini added a couple more runs in the sixth, and thanks to 5.2 innings of one-hit ball from Emily Oestreich (13-7), they prevailed in the second game of the evening.


The Illini continue their seven game homestand this weekend, with a three game series against Iowa starting on Friday.
