Illinois Softball swept by Wisconsin

A look at Softball’s series versus Wisconsin last week.

Game 1: Wisconsin 4, Illinois 2

Wisconsin jumped out to an early 2-0 lead in the bottom of the first, scoring on an RBI single and a fielder’s choice. Taylor Edwards (8-7) took the loss for the Illini, going 6 innings, allowing seven hits and three earned runs. Illinois’ lone runs came in the seventh inning, when Bella Loya and Maddi Doane had back to back hits, later coming around to score on a Wisconsin error and wild pitch.

Game 2: Wisconsin 6, Illinois 2

Wisconsin jumped out to an early lead, hitting a leadoff home run in the bottom of the first. Emily Oestreich (12-7) took the loss, after allowing another hit and walking a batter, before being relieved by Akilah Mouzon before she could record an out. Once again, the Illini scored their two runs in the seventh frame, coming on an RBI hit-by-pitch from Veronica Ruelius and an RBI fielder’s choice by Alexis Carrillo.

Game 3 of the series was cancelled due to inclement weather. Illinois will be back at it with a double header versus Green Bay on April 18th.
