Guard Andres Feliz signs with Illinois

The JUCO point guard has two years left.

Point guard Andres Feliz signed with Illinois on Wednesday.

He committed to Illinois on April 8 after visiting on the weekend of April 7.

Feliz originally signed with the University of South Florida back in November 2015 — when current Illinois Assistant Coach Orlando Antigua, and fellow Dominican, was in charge of the Bulls’ program — before decommitting and joining Northwest Florida State College.

Feliz spent two years at the JUCO school, and he has two years left with Illinois. He is eligible immediately, so he will be on the roster and playing in the 2018-19 season.

In his sophomore season with the NWFSC program, Feliz averaged an impressive 20 points per game on 61 percent shooting from the field and 41 percent shooting from behind the arc. The guard also pulled down 5.7 rebounds a game and dished out over six assists. These are eye-popping numbers at any level, especially looked at the field goal percentage. A guard shooting the ball at over 60 percent is virtually unheard of.

Expect Feliz to step into the program and make an immediate impact. At 6-foot-2, 180 pounds, he’s a quick, shifty backcourt guy with the ability to make plays not just for himself, but his teammates as well.

The JUCO product will add a nice blend of backcourt depth and experience to a young roster. With both Frazier and Feliz in hand, the Illini bolster two of the most talented lead guards in the conference.
