Former Illinois Mr. Basketball Mark Smith intends to transfer after one season with the Fighting Illini.
Former Illinois Mr. Basketball Mark Smith met with athletic administration at Illinois today with his intent to transfer. Should have his release from Illini in a day or two.

Smith had a rocky first season in Champaign after coming in with high expectations. He was Brad Underwood’s first signing last April after Underwood took the job in March.
Smith was a consensus four-star recruit who also had an offer he was considering from Michigan State, as well as other schools. He started 19 games for Illinois and average 5.8 points.
The Illini lost in the first game of the Big Ten Tournament last week to Iowa.
“We thank Mark for the effort and contributions he made to our team this year,” Underwood said. “We wish him nothing but the best as he continues to pursue his dreams.”
Stay tuned to The Champaign Room as we provide more analysis on Smith’s decision and the future of Illinois basketball.
