Illinois point guard Trent Frazier was named to the Big Ten’s All-Freshman Team on Monday afternoon.
Frazier led Big Ten freshmen in scoring this season with 12.5 points per game. He also led Big Ten freshmen in points, assists, steals and three-pointers made for the entire season.
A native of Wellington, Florida, Frazier finished runner-up in Florida Mr. Basketball last season, and he was not expected by many Illini fans to have the kind of freshman season he had.
He had a season-high 32 points in a loss to Wisconsin earlier this month and made seven three-pointers three times this season. Frazier played 40 minutes in an overtime game versus Iowa in January, an effort that may be needed by the Illini in their Big Ten Tournament opening-round game against the Hawkeyes on Wednesday.
