Don’t call it a lost season.
Senior Chase McLaughlin was named Big Ten Kicker of the Year by the conference on Tuesday.
McLaughlin also earned First-Team All-Big Ten honors.
Illinois’ kicker never missed an extra point in his career, hitting 20-of-25 field goals this season. He also led the Big Ten in field goals per game (1.67) and tied the FBS lead with nine 40-yard field goals made this season.
There was a point this season where offensive coordinator Rod Smith had to reiterate that he “loves Chase McLaughlin, but would rather have a touchdown.”
It’s nice to have a good kicker.
We wish you the best in the NFL, Chase!
