Illinois football has a new quarterback on its roster beginning Monday, according to the Tampa Bay Times.

Former Central Florida quarterback Pete DiNovo left the program last month and transferred to Illinois, practicing with Lovie Smith’s team Monday, the article says.

DiNovo appeared in two career games — one as a quarterback and one as a wide receiver — over three seasons with the Knights. His three passing attempts as a freshman totaled for minus-5 total yards.

While it is unclear at the moment what DiNovo’s role on the Illini may be, there are questions circulating about who the starting quarterback will be against Nebraska on Sept. 29. Chayce Crouch led the team to a 2-0 start, but was benched against South Florida this past weekend after a third-consecutive game with a disappointing offense.

Backup QB Jeff George Jr. completed 12-of-22 passes for 211 yards and one touchdown against the Bulls.

The Illini are currently in a bye week.
