The former Illini tennis star fell in straight sets to No. 1 Rafael Nadal on Sunday afternoon. Still, Anderson’s resilient effort helped him make Illini history, becoming the first former Illini to reach a Grand Slam final.

Illinois athletics have the best fanbase in college sports.
The argument can be up for debate, which is one of the great things about sports in general, but Illinois is definitely up there after Stuff Huff at Friday’s volleyball game, Saturday night’s football game, and the display of pride shown by Illini nation during Anderson’s U.S. Open run.
Football Performers of the Week
Freshman running back Mike Epstein took our honors as the Illini’s top performer this week after rushing for over 100 yards.
The Illinois defense was also included in our top Big Ten performers after allowing only six rushing yards versus Western Kentucky.
Illinois soccer falls to Oklahoma
The Illini concluded their tour of Oklahoma with a second-straight loss, this time at the hands of the Sooners.

Oklahoma State defeated Illinois on Friday night, 2-0. The Illini enter Big Ten play with a record of 3-4.
