Illinois football has added a third member to their 2018 recruiting class. On Tuesday night, Oswego East cornerback Antwain Walker announced a verbal commitment to the Fighting Illini shortly after picking up an offer from the coaching staff.
The 6-foot-1, 175-pound prospect is currently rated as a two-star recruit by both 247Sports and Scout. He had other scholarships in hand from Indiana State, North Dakota State, South Dakota State and Western Illinois.
“Wow! I would have never thought 10 years ago that this day would ever come around. Growing up I had no idea what I wanted to do with my life I was a little confused, which is normal during that time of your life. Then freshman year came around and I decided that I wanted to play football and now here comes me going into my senior year making the biggest decision of my life. The game of football changed my life tremendously. Out of my three years of playing this sport and making it my life I would love to thank my family, peers, and coaches. I give major thanks to my father for pushing me in the right direction. Also I would love to thank my teammates for pushing me and making me a better player. Finally I would love to give a huge thanks to Oswego East’s coaching staff and teachers for help sculpting me into a great athlete and student.
Now I would love to say I have made my final decision! I will be continuing my football and academic career at the University of Illinois! #GoIllini”
Prospect Analysis (via Scout)
Long corner who is willing to get up on the line and challenge receivers in press-man. Solid athlete who can change directions well and shows good overall fluidity. Has the length to compete on jump balls, but can still continue to improve on ball skills. Ran well at summer camps and showed recovery/makeup speed. Still needs to get stronger and can improve on his run support/tackling.
So far, Walker joins three-star quarterback Coran Taylor (IL) and three-star offensive lineman Julian Pearl (IL) in this recruiting class.
