The Fighting Illini landed a verbal commitment 2018 three-star offensive lineman Kievan Myers (TX) late on Wednesday night. Myers is rated as the No. 736 overall player in the nation by 247Sports.
Myers noted in his Twitter announcement that his recruiting process is still “open to all coaches and schools,” so it remains to be seen how firm of a commitment this actually is. Regardless, this seems like a really nice addition for the Orange and Blue.
“I’m honored to say that I have reached this point in my life where I’m ready to commit. I am truly blessed and all praise goes to the man above. With that being said I would like to thank my coaches and teammates for pushing me to be the person I am today. I would also like to thank my family and friends for making me the man I am today. I would also want to thank all of the coaches who showed interest in me. With that being said I would like to commit to the University of Illinois. My recruiting process is still open to all coaches and schools. #FightingIllini”
Like newly committed three-star defensive back Ron Hardge III, Myers had several other scholarships from Power 5 programs. The 6-foot-5, 335-pound prospect was involved with Colorado, West Virginia, Mississippi State, Missouri, Texas Tech, Utah and Houston.
Myers is the eighth member of Illinois’ 2018 recruiting class; he’s currently the highest-rated member of the group by a large margin. Collectively, the Fighting Illini now site at No. 64 nationally (+6) and No. 13 in the Big Ten (+1).
