After being granted a full release from the University of Illinois basketball program in early May, junior wing D.J. Williams has decided to transfer to George Washington University.

“After meeting with D.J., we came to the decision that a fresh start is in his best interest,” Illinois coach Brad Underwood said in a release back in May. “We wish him success with the next chapter of his career.”
Per NCAA transfer rules, Williams will not be eligible to play until the 2018-2019 basketball season. Williams averaged 2.3 points, 0.9 rebounds and 0.5 assists last season for the Fighting Illini, appearing in just four games after Jan. 11 last season. The former four star recruit from Simeon never found consistent playing time under former head coach John Groce, and with the addition of Brad Underwood’s guard heavy lineup, the decision was mutual for Williams to find a new opportunity.
Williams has two years of NCAA eligibility remaining.
