Three-star guard Jordan Lathon narrows list to 5 schools, includes Illinois Basketball

The Missouri native picked up a scholarship from the Fighting Illini on Wednesday.

Jordan Lathon received a scholarship offer from Illinois basketball on Wednesday, and just days later, he’s included the program in his narrowed list.

The 6-foot-4 guard announced his top five schools on Friday night, including Northwestern, Butler, Iowa State, and Wake Forest along with the Fighting Illini.

Lathon is rated as a three-star prospect by 247Sports, he’s currently the No. 170 overall player in the class-of-2018. Other high-major schools such as Missouri, Virginia, and Oklahoma were expressing interest, but they’ve so far failed to offer scholarships, presumably eliminating them as a result.

Lathon discussed his five finalists with Made Hoops, and when Illinois came up, he mentioned that he’ll be visiting Champaign in the near future.

“Illinois folks love basketball,” said Lathon. “My relationship with coach Walker is very good, he knows my AAU coach well and we clicked from the jump. Coach Underwood wants to get me up to campus soon. We are trying to schedule a date soon.”

As it stands now, the Orange and Blue have five open roster spots to use on the 2018 recruiting class. That figure may change in the coming weeks if Brad Underwood opts for additional multi-year players this offseason.
