The main wave of Summer classes began at the University of Illinois on Monday, and while campus once again becomes moderately crowded and filled with street construction, the basketball program will be busy conducting individual workouts.
You know who’s already participating in these offseason sessions? The 2017 recruiting class. That’s right, the newest members of the Fighting Illini have finally set foot in Champaign as a group.
Here are our first looks at Mark Smith, Trent Frazier, DaMonte Williams, and Greg Eboigbodin at the Ubben practice facility!
The team’s Twitter account also posted a short video of Frazier draining some three-pointers during a run through of the Celtic drill.
Smith (No. 75) and Frazier (No. 104) are currently rated as four-star prospects by 247Sports. Williams (No. 151) and Eboigbodin (No. 433), meanwhile, have been given three-star designations.
Illinois faced several defections after Brad Underwood took over as head coach in March, but even with those in mind, the Orange and Blue still wound up with the Big Ten’s No. 1 incoming class.
As it stands now, Illinois’ group ranks No. 25 nationally. To put that into perspective with the rest of the conference, Purdue’s class headlined by Evanston star Nojel Eastern sits at No. 27, and Wisconsin is following suit at No. 28.
