2017 NCAA Men’s Golf Championship: Illinois advances to Semifinals for the 4th time in 5 Years

Illinois defeats the USC Trojans 3-1-1 in quarterfinal match play, advancing to afternoon semifinal

After opening the quarterfinal match trailing in a handful of matches, the Fighting Illini come back to defeat the USC Trojans 3-1-1 to advance to the semifinals of the NCAA Men’s Golf Championship. This will be the fourth time in five years that Illinois will play in a semifinal match.

Edoardo Lipparelli led the team off with an early 1 UP win over the 9th ranked Sean Crocker, while freshman Giovanni Tadiotto followed up with a 1 UP victory over Andrew Levitt.

Junior Nick Hardy closed his match with Rico Hoey on the 18th to seal the quarterfinal win. Coach Small was pleased with the comeback effort from his guys.

“Man, we really fought back,” said Small after the victory. “This is a long week emotionally and mentally and we looked a little sluggish, but the guys just kept fighting.”
