Fighting Illini football has unfortunately just taken their first real loss of the 2018 recruiting cycle. With an announcement on Twitter, three-star quarterback Quincy Patterson (IL) gave a verbal commitment to Virginia Tech over the likes of Illinois, Penn State, North Carolina, and about a dozen other Power 5 programs.
According to 247Sports, the Chicago native is rated as the No. 542 overall player and No. 10 dual-threat quarterback in the class-of-2018. He held additional scholarship offers from Indiana, Iowa, Iowa State, Mississippi State, Missouri, N.C. State, Northwestern, Syracuse, Vanderbilt, and Virginia.
“After deep thought, visiting a multitude of football programs, discussions with my parents, and weighing out my options, I want to thank everyone who has been there for me throughout this recruitment journey and helped fulfill a dream at getting the opportunity to play at the next level. Furthermore, I am proud to announce that I will be furthering my engineering and football aspirations at Virginia Tech University.”
Again, not the best news, but Illinois’ recruiting picture at the position has gotten a bit clearer with this development. The name to keep an eye going forward is three-star quarterback Coran Taylor (IL); the Peoria star received a scholarship offer from the Orange and Blue following a monstrous performance in the IHSA 5A State Championship, and he has taken multiple campus visits in the past two weeks.
