The nation’s top high school punter is on the verge of a college decision, and Fighting Illini football is a candidate to land his services. Per his Twitter account, three-star prospect Ryan Stonehouse (CA) will announce a commitment on Tuesday night at 5:00pm CT. Additionally, the Mater Dei product has narrowed his list to three schools — Illinois, California, and Colorado State.
247Sports has Stonehouse ranked as the No. 696 overall player and No. 1 punter in the class-of-2017. Arizona, Tennessee, and Iowa were also were also previously involved in the recruitment.

It isn’t exactly standard operating procedure for programs to use scholarships on punters, but Stonehouse did pick up an offer from the Orange and Blue on February 3. California and Colorado State have done the same, making it no surprise that these are the remaining schools.
Illinois’ 2017 recruiting class officially sits at 25 players, however JUCO quarterback commit Dwayne Lawson isn’t included in that group because he has yet to finish a required degree before transferring. So in the event of a commitment from Stonehouse the total number of incoming players will equal 27.
