Braggin’ Rights 2017 is the gift that just keeps giving.
First it was Verdis Brown signing with the Illini over the Tigers. Then Illinois beat Missouri for the fifth-straight year in St. Louis. Illinois forward Leron Black proposed after the game, and he got a ‘yes.’
And now Trent Frazier gets to help Illini fans brag.
Frazier, a freshman guard, was named Big Ten Freshman of the Week on Tuesday after his career-high 22 points, one rebound, one assist and one block helped lead the Illini to the 70-64 win. Frazier scored Illinois’ final eight points and went 10-of-11 from the free thrown line.
Overshadowed by fellow freshman guard Mark Smith early in non-conference play, Frazier has scored double figures in four straight games and has averaged 17.8 points per game during the stretch.
Jalen Coleman-Lands was the last Illini to win the honor (Feb. 2016).
