Khalan Tolson signed with Illinois on Wednesday in the first day of the Early Signing Period.
A native of Saint Petersburg, Florida, Tolson had other offers from notable schools like Indiana, Michigan, Michigan State and South Florida.
The owner of 4.62 40-yard dash, Tolson has great quickness to get to the QB and awareness of how to stop the run in the backfield. What he lacks in size (6-foot/200 pounds), he makes up in strength and leadership on the field, key characteristics Lovie Smith has been looking for in his second full Illinois recruiting class.
Tolson announced his commitment in a July 31 tweet.
