Carlos Sandy signed with Illinois on Wednesday in the first day of the Early Signing Period.
A native of Fort Lauderdale, Florida, Sandy’s only other Power 5 scholarship offer was from Syracuse. According to Scout, though, schools like Western Michigan, Western Kentucky, and Toledo were also involved.
He is a three-star wide receiver, according to 247.
Sandy announced his commitment in a June tweet.
“First and foremost, I would like to thank God for blessing me with the talent to play the game of football. I want to thank my loving family who has supported me throughout my entire football career. I would also like to show appreciation to my high school coaches for assisting me throughout the process, without them I wouldn’t have been given this amazing opportunity. Special thanks to coach Ron, the very first coach to teach me the game of football. Last but certainly not least, I want to thank Coach Lovie, Coach McGee, Coach Stoker, and Coach Ward for recruiting me as strongly as they did. I am for certain that my decision is what’s best for my family and I.
After a well though decision with my family, I would like to announce that I am verbally committing to the University of Illinois. #FightingIllini #WeWillWin”
Sandy reaffirmed his commitment over the weekend in a tweet.
