Five-star guard Ayo Dosunmu officially signed with Illinois basketball on Wednesday afternoon.
“It’s a great day in Illinois basketball history,” Illinois head coach Brad Underwood said at a press conference. “(Dosunmu) is the highest-ranked played Illinois has signed since 2001 (in Dee Brown). We're ELATED to have him wearing Orange and Blue.”
Dosunmu is currently a senior at Morgan Park High School in Chicago.
The guard is the only current member of Illinois’ 2018 class. The Illini missed out on other targets like George Conditt and Talen Horton-Tucker, both of whom signed with Iowa State.
Illinois women’s basketball head coach Nancy Fahey and baseball head coach Dan Hartleb spoke at the press conference as well. Quotables from them are available on The Champaign Room’s Twitter page (@Champaign_Room).
Illinois signed 2017 Mr. Illinois Basketball back in April.
“We felt we hit a home run in the spring (Mark Smith),” Underwood said. Now we have Ayo.”
