Another commitment for Fighting Illini football. Three-star defensive back Bennett Williams (CA) announced a verbal commitment to Illinois on Monday morning, picking the program over Air Force, Hawaii, San Jose State, UNLV, Wyoming, and a handful of Ivy League schools.
At this time, Williams has not received a ranking on 247Sports. Scout, however, has pegged the 6-foot, 185-pound California native as a three-star prospect.

“What an exciting process this has been! Quick thanks to all the family and friends that have supported me through this process and throughout my 17 years of life. My biggest thanks goes to Mom and Dad, providing me with the opportunities I now have today. Thanks to my coaches at Saint Francis, Epic 7, and even basketball, for teaching me not only great fundamentals but also building character. Special thanks to all the schools that recruited me, the process was a dream come true.
All this being said, I’m ecstatic to announce I will be playing college ball and attending the University of Illinois #WeWillWin”
Williams is the 22nd member of Illinois’ 2017 recruiting class. It’s a bit difficult to determine how many incoming defensive backs the team will have, however there could be as many as five now thanks to prior commitments from three-star ATH Kendall Smith (IL), three-star ATH Tony Adams (MO), three-star DB Nate Hobbs (KY), and three-star DB James Knight (IL). Overall, Illinois has three remaining scholarships to fill this cycle.
