This Team Misses Kendrick Nunn

<a class='sbn-auto-link' href=Kendrick Nunn" data-chorus-asset-id="7847603" />

Ex-Illini Guard

I was as optimistic on this group as anyone but conference play has brought me as much heart burn and marital problems (wife insists on watching the games with me) as anyone. The issues have been the back court and the defense. If you listen to Groce, he feels like the offense will fix itself while he wants better defense. But if you look at the stats from the Purdue and Maryland games you'll see how bad our offense has become. In the second half against Maryland our starting back court of Jalen Coleman-Lands and Tracy Abrams combined were 2-10 from the floor and 2-9 from three in a combined 30 mins. The Purdue game was worst, they combined for 4-15 from the floor and 1-6 from three. Now imagine if we could take JCL's minutes and bad shots down some. Imagine if Tracy didn't have to play any non shooting - shooting guard minutes because we had a 6'3 senior combo guard that actually makes 39% for 3 point range. This is only in our imagination since Kendrick was rightfully kicked off the team for domestic abuse. Domestic Abuse is a real issue that needs to be address in this country and I'm proud of how this administration dealt with the situation. But I can still dream.
