Illinois basketball’s biggest guest since Cliff Alexander has arrived on campus. According to Illini Inquirer’s Derek Piper, five-star wing Kris Wilkes (IN) has begun his official visit to Champaign, which is planned to span through Saturday night’s football game and into Sunday morning. The 6-foot-7 prospect is rated as the No. 18 overall player in the country.
I'm told 5-star Indianapolis wing Kris Wilkes (@kadw31) is on the #Illini campus for his official visit. https://t.co/RezGueTYkw

Wilkes will get a chance to meet some of his potential teammates, too, as future Fighting Illini Jeremiah Tilmon, DaMonte Williams, and Javon Pickett will be on hand to strengthen John Groce’s recruiting pitch. The trio of players unfortunately won’t be joined by Trent Frazier, who committed on his own visit a few weeks ago.

While it’s pretty exciting that Wilkes will be on campus, don’t get your hopes up for a verbal commitment. The Indiana native narrowed his list to five schools, and he’ll be taking trips to each of them over the next two months. Still, these upcoming days will be a big opportunity for the Orange and Blue to jump towards the top of Wilkes’ list.
