It’s official — the Fighting Illini have named a new Director of Basketball Operations. The program announced on Monday that James Haring has received a promotion after serving as one of John Groce’s graduate assistants for the past two seasons.

Haring was previously a student manager at West Virginia, where he served four seasons under Bob Huggins. According to the university’s press release, Haring was also a member of the event staff for the LeBron James and Kevin Durant skills academies in 2013.

In his new role, Harring will handle just about every logistical aspect of the program, including travel plans, housing, weekly scheduling, summer camps, and budget management.

Statement from John Groce

"We are thrilled to officially add James Haring to our program in a full-time capacity. He is a trusted member of our staff and a dedicated, tireless worker. James did an outstanding job serving our players and coaches as a graduate manager and is fully prepared to handle the many administrative duties involved with the day-to-day running of our program."

Harring replaces Mark Morris, who recently left the program for a position with Teamworks, a North Carolina-based organization that aids sport teams with collaborative software.
