The 2016 Summer Olympic Games will officially get underway in Rio de Janeiro on Friday night at the city’s Maracanã Stadium. The world’s top athletes will be on display for the next 16 days in events varying from Archery to Wrestling. Included in that group of participants are seven Fighting Illini — here they are:

Nikkita Holder (2007-09) - Canada, Track & Field (100m H)
Susanna Kallur (2001-02) - Sweden, Track & Field (100m H)
Ashley Kelly (2009-12) - British Virgin Islands, Track & Field (200m)
Tomas Pieters (2011-13) - Belgium, Golf
Rajeev Ram (2003) - USA, Tennis (Doubles)
Andrew Riley (2009-12) - Jamaica, Track & Field (110m H)
Pedrya Seymour (2014-Present) - Track & Field (100m H)

Pedrya Seymour, the only current Illini participating in the games, will be taking over the Illinois Athletics Snapchat account during the Opening Ceremonies. If you have the app installed on your phone, you can point your camera towards this icon to add the Orange and Blue to your story feed. That should prove to be a really unique behind-the-scenes look throughout the evening.

The celebration is scheduled to start at around 8:00pm local time in Rio, but there will be a one-hour time delay for viewers in the United States. NBC will be begin their coverage at 6:30pm CT, with the ceremony following at 7:00pm CT. You can check out more television and streaming information right here.
