Fighting Illini Soccer remains undefeated with 1-0 victory over Illinois State

Goalkeeper Michelle Denley set a new career-high with 10 saves.

Illinois State put up a valiant fight on Sunday, but Illini soccer (2-0-0) remained undefeated thanks to their second shutout of the young season. Allison Stucky’s strike in the 31st minute ultimately became the only goal of the match, and the Orange and Blue held on for a 1-0 victory.

Goalkeeper Michelle Denley also came up huge in a critical situation, as she denied a Redbird penalty kick in the second half to preserve the lead. The senior hauled in 10 saves, which marks a new career-high.

The Illini will depart from Champaign later this week for a two-game road trip. The first match will take place on August 26 against the Missouri Tigers, and that’ll be followed by a trip to St. Louis University on August 28.
