Three-star defensive back Faion Hicks narrows list, includes Illinois Football

The Florida native named his Top 8 schools on Sunday.

Three-star defensive back Faion Hicks (FL) recently named Illinois football to his narrowed list of eight schools. The 5-foot-11 prospect also included Iowa State, Central Florida, Northern Illinois, Appalachian State, South Florida, Florida Atlantic, and Western Kentucky. While the Illini and Cyclones were the only two Power 5 programs mentioned, Hicks' 247Sports page also indicates that Wisconsin had been involved.

"First I would like to thank ALL the coaches who have offered me a scholarship to play at the next level. Heading into the season I've decided to narrow my list to the top schools who have interested me and who fits my goal for being an early enrollee!"

Hicks is the No. 1397 overall player in 247Sports' composite rankings. His HUDL page indicates a verified 40-yard dash of 4.57 seconds, and his vertical has also been measured at 36.9 inches.

Hicks received his official scholarship offer on Monday, along with dozens of Illinois' other recruiting targets.

With the recent commitment of Antwan Collier, Illinois will probably be looking to add at least two more defensive backs in this recruiting class. Four-star ATH Russ Yeast and three-star CB Tony Adams appear to be at the top of Lovie Smith's wish list, though, so a verbal from Hicks doesn't appear likely in the near-future. Still, Hicks will be a name to keep an eye on depending on what those other prospects do in the coming weeks.
