Three-star linebacker DeCalon Brooks commits to Florida State over Illinois Football

Good morning! Welcome to the Orange Minute for Friday, August 19.

Three-star linebacker DeCalon Brooks (FL) ended his recruitment on Thursday night by verbally committing to the Florida State Seminoles. The son of NFL Hall-of-Famer Derrick Brooks was also considering Illinois, Louisville, Rutgers, South Florida, and Iowa State. Brooks is the No. 1103 overall player in the country.

First I would like to thank God for all the blessings in my life. I thank my family for all their support and love throughout this whole entire process. I thank my coaches and my friends for their support and helping me throughout the whole thing. I really appreciate and give thanks to all the scouts who recruited me and showed interest in me and wanting me to play at their school. But I have chosen to further my education and football career at Florida State University.

Brooks received a scholarship from Illinois on March 9, and he was the first player to publicly announce an offer from Lovie Smith. He was planning to take a visit to Champaign as recently as July 22.
