Illinois basketball may have lost out on a top target last weekend, but recruiting momentum may be on the verge of returning. Four-star point guard Trent Frazier will be in Champaign this weekend for an official visit. The Florida native is the No.108 player in the country, and he's considering a list of seven other schools.
John Groce made Frazier his top priority at the position this Summer, and that work has put the program on the verge of what could very well be another verbal commitment. Georgia is the only other 'finalist' that has been pursuing the Florida native over the past few months, however they had been devoting even more resources towards four-star guard Darius Perry, who selected Louisville on Tuesday. It seems they are the only potential 'threat' to persuade Frazier away from Illinois, but that might be pretty hard to accomplish based on his recent tweets.

Someone will need to explain to him that it's the #UniversityofIllinois, though. Scout recently labeled Frazier as one of the top standouts from the second evaluation period. Based on their brief scouting report, it's easy to see why the coaching staff was a constant fixture at his AAU games. Frazier's score-first mentality is exactly what John Groce has been looking for out of a position they'll be needing production from in 2017.
Playing with Florida Elite, Frazier proved to be one of the most explosive guards in the country. He is absolutely tremendous off of ball screens, and also is a very good outside shooter.
According to 247Sports' class calculator, a commitment from Frazier would propel Illinois' 2017 recruiting class to No. 2 in the nation, behind only Auburn. Needless to say this will be a big weekend for the Orange and Blue.
